5 things to do to care for your garden in winter
Did you think there was nothing to do in the garden in winter? Think again! It is the ideal time to carry out small jobs to prepare for the arrival of warmer weather.
Here are the five musts for your garden this winter.
Dig
It is decided: this weekend, you are going to dig your soil into large clods—in other words, roughly—to aerate it. The soil will then be much more crumbly in spring. You can then mulch it to protect it.
Cover
To protect your plants from cold and frost, install a winter fleece made from flexible polypropylene. It will protect your plants from frost while allowing them to breathe. Please note that bin bags and plastic bags should not be used, as they can “suffocate” plants.
Clear
In winter, it is important not to leave dead leaves on your lawn. By collecting them, you will prevent the blades of grass from being smothered and fungi from developing.
Feed
Birds rely on your help during this period. Remember to put out a feeder with water and fat balls.
Tidy
Take advantage of this quieter period to sort, clean and repair your garden tools. You will then be ready as soon as spring begins.
