5 trends to follow when arranging your garden in 2020

The warmer days are still a little hesitant, but they should be here very soon. And if we all dream hard enough about those long summer evenings, they should arrive, shouldn’t they? So now is the time to start thinking about how to design your garden.

To help you prepare, here are the trends to follow when designing your garden in 2020:

1) Opt for natural materials

If there is one thing to remember about the trends of 2020, it is the return to basics! Forget sophisticated furniture: this year, natural materials such as seagrass, wood and rattan are taking centre stage. Choose clean, soft lines that showcase craftsmanship.

2) Choose warm, understated colours

Once again, simplicity is key! Choose colours that are as close to nature as possible: terracotta, white or beige.

3) Grow your own produce

Getting back to basics is on everyone’s lips at the start of summer 2020. Lockdown undoubtedly has something to do with it, and that is a very good thing: green living is everywhere. You will not need a large plot of land; a small patch of soil or a terrace will be enough to grow your own fruit and vegetables. Nature is magical!

4) Live outdoors

In 2020, you will not just go outside to read a book in the shade of a tree; you will live there. The trend is towards a complete outdoor space: a lounge, an outdoor kitchen, a children’s play area and sometimes even a bathroom!

5) Let nature reclaim its place

Gone are manicured English gardens without daisies: this year, make room for the wild. You will see how, without human intervention, nature flourishes and is full of surprises.
Psst: what’s more, it is an excellent exercise in letting go!
