The weather is lovely, spring is gradually settling in and you may be feeling the urge to do a thorough spring clean.
We are offering you a 15-day challenge to take care of your home!
The kitchen
Day 1: Clean your microwave and oven. To make cleaning the microwave easier, simply place half a lemon in a bowl of water, heat it on high power for 1 minute 30 seconds and then wipe it with a cloth. That is all there is to it!
Day 2: Clean your dishwasher and washing machine. For a thorough clean, fill the detergent compartment with spirit vinegar (for the washing machine, add essential oils) and run the appliances empty on a short cycle.
Day 3: It is time to tackle the fridge. A quick tip: start at the top so that you do not feel as though you are doing the same job twice.
Day 4: Sort through your cupboards. Throw away containers that no longer have lids, clean the spice drawer and gather together all those open packets of pasta. Perhaps this is the time to switch to buying in bulk? This allows you to store everything neatly in jars (transparent ones for convenience) and avoid waste!
Day 5: This may be the least pleasant task in this challenge… plan a nice reward for yourself! Wash your bin. Keep going; you have already completed a third of the challenge.
The bathroom:
Day 6: Sort through your medicine cabinet and remember to check the expiry dates on medicines.
Day 7: Sort through your beauty products. We often use very few of them, and you will realise that most of these products are unnecessary (and probably out of date). Take the opportunity to clean those ingrained soap stains from the bathroom shelf!
Day 8: Get rid of the limescale on the shower screen and mirror.
The bedroom:
Day 9: Tidy your wardrobes and drawers. Do not throw away your clothes; sell them or donate them to one of the many charities that need them.
Day 10: Turn your mattress over and wash your pillows and sheets.
Day 11: Clean EVERYWHERE: under the bed, behind the bedside tables and behind the furniture. Remember to give your floors a thorough clean.
For wooden flooring, fill a basin with one litre of hot water and mix in half a glass of spirit vinegar or one tablespoon of liquid black soap. Mop the entire surface using the mixture. Rinse with clean water and dry with a cotton cloth.
For rugs: dilute 200ml of white vinegar in 1 litre of sparkling water, apply it to the surface to be cleaned and leave it to work for 30 minutes, then rinse with hot water. Ventilate the room thoroughly and leave the rug to air-dry.
The living room:
Day 12: Wash your cushions, chairs and sofas.
Day 13: Wipe the TV and electronic devices with a damp cloth.
Day 14: Clean the windows and curtains.
The home office:
Day 15: Tackle the paperwork. Digitise important documents and file papers in folders: bills, legal documents, healthcare documents, etc.
A little bonus? Back up your computer. Sort through all your folders and your inbox. Why not take the opportunity to install that update that always appears at the wrong time?
You have made it to the end. Well done!
It feels good to be at home, does it not?
