New grant in Brussels: the Renolution grant

On 1 April, the Brussels government launched the Renolution grant.
It replaced the energy grant, the home renovation grant and the façade improvement grant.

What is Renolution?

Renolution is the Brussels building renovation strategy created to reduce the impact of greenhouse gases and energy expenditure while improving the living comfort of Brussels residents.
The aim is to reduce current consumption by a factor of three and achieve an average energy performance level of 100kWh/m²/year for all homes in Brussels by 2050.

In practical terms, the Renolution strategy is structured around six themes:
  • a universal EPC certificate for all properties in Brussels, allowing owners to see what improvements need to be made to their property;
  • a joint effort by owners and co-ownership associations to renovate buildings (façades, roofs, etc.) as well as flats;
  • a particular effort by the tertiary sector, which will be required to work towards carbon neutrality from 2040;
  • a circular approach to energy consumption and the production and transportation of materials;
  • support for all Brussels residents wishing to undertake renovation work;
  • an obligation to carry out renovations by 2050.
