Buying or building: which is more cost-effective?
When you decide to invest in a house, you may find yourself hesitating between buying and building. It is a valid question, as both options have advantages and disadvantages.
Buying an existing house allows you to move into your new home relatively quickly. In principle, you will not have to carry out any major structural work unless you wish to do so. The overall structure of your house will already be in place when you purchase it. You should therefore only need to fit out and renovate the interior according to your tastes. However, it is worth noting that you may need to carry out insulation work, particularly in an older house, which can prove costly.
Conversely, if you decide to build, you will need to be more patient. Once the land belongs to you, some time will pass before your house is ready and you can live in it. You should also bear in mind that building your own house involves a fairly significant upfront cost. However, do not worry: you will very likely benefit in the long term.
Despite the time required to build your house, it must be recognised that this option offers one major advantage. Your house will reflect you completely. It will be your own project, designed by you from start to finish. You will therefore have the satisfaction of living in a house that reflects you in every respect, rather than one where only the interior suits you.
It is now up to you to decide whether you prefer to buy or build. Neither solution is better than the other. You simply need to decide whether you would prefer to have your house quickly or to live somewhere that reflects you completely and that you have built yourself. It also depends on your budget, as well as your needs and wishes.
