According to the IPI’s latest report in 2017, there have never been so many estate agents in Belgium! In this article, we share some key facts about the estate agency profession.
1. The figures
In 2017, 10,181 estate agents were practising in Belgium, including 1,875 of them in Brussels. This number increased by almost 13% in 10 years! In 2017, Belgium had 8,042 licensed agents, 2,094 trainees and 45 agents practising on an “occasional” basis.
2. Breakdown by gender
The sector was predominantly male, comprising almost 69% men and 31% women in 2017.
3. Average age
The age of estate agents varies according to their status. The average age of licensed agents is 49, compared with 34 among trainees, which is higher than at J&J Properties, where the average age is under 30… We certainly caught the property bug young; it has never been a second choice for us 😉
4. Young graduates
In 2017, 230 young graduates became licensed agents. Of these, 189 chose to become brokers, while only 20 chose to become property managers, a far less sought-after profession than the former… Indeed, there has been a severe shortage of property managers for several years, and last year’s figures confirm this!
Finally, 21 licensed agents became both brokers and property managers.
